OCR: ROBOTS IN FILM THE LAWS OF ROBOTICS INTERPLANETARY SPACECRAFT INTERPLANETARY SPACECRAFT Like messages in a bottle tossed into an endless sea, four space probes are now travelling slowly but surely toward the stars: Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, and Voyager 2. Although these interstellar probes are travelling at a mind-boggling rate of 3.5 astronomical units-an astronomical unit being the average distance between the Sun and the Earth, or 150 million kilometers- per year, it will be 30 to 40,000 years before they even approach any of these heavenly lights. So man will be alone in his "little" solar system for a long time before one of these distant travelers encounters intelligent life. To speed up space travel in the future, we shall have to develop radically new means of propulsion. Several new systems are under study that would allow us to increase speeds by a factor of five to ten, and eventually even approach the speed of light ... MARS BETAT
